Harry Maguire will not be included in Thomas Tukul’s England squad. He’s confirmed this on his ex page. This is what he’s had to say. I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years.
I wish the players all the best this summer. He says Rob Dorset joined us for more on this. I mean, Jody was kind of saying just a few moments ago that he kind of wasn’t that surprised. You are surprised. I’m staggered if I’m honest with you, but I’m not. If you look at what Thomas Tukul has said about Harry Mcguire recently, then it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
So, look, here’s the situation. Harry Maguire has not been a mainstay of Thomas Tukul’s England at all. Even though he’s been a main stay for England for so many years, he’s played in the last four major tournaments. He’s won 66 England caps. Um, the thing is he’s been playing really well for Manchester United of late.

14 of the of the 16 games he’s played under Michael Carrick. The only two he missed was because of suspension. He played for England in the last two friendlies and was outstanding in those matches, particularly against Uruguay, man of the match in my opinion. And I thought he’s done enough to prove his worth.
Harry Maguire not included in England squad

But straight after that game in between those two friendlies, Thomas Tukul came out and said, as far as I’m concerned, Harry Mcgor is still my fifth choice center back, which I think shocked a lot of people, including myself, that the the England boss would say that about a player at that stage, but he is brutally honest, the you know, Thomas Tukul.
And so if you listen to what he said, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise. But I think on all those terms, the experience he’s got, um the fact that he’s been playing so well for Manchester United of late, the fact that he’s fully fit and available, I’m surprised he’s not in the top five center backs that England could call on because I think Tuk will pick five center backs because of the heat, um because of possible suspensions.
I think we go with five central defensive midfield, central defensive players. And I’m really surprised that Harry Mcguire isn’t one of them, I have to say. So, who who gets the nod ahead of him, do you think, then? Well, look, we we fully expect Mark Gay and Ezri Coner to be the the first choices um when it comes to to to those.
Um and then I think it’s a debate after that. Um you look at the fact that Dan Burn is probably going to be in there as well. So, probably those three center backs are probably, you know, got one foot on the plane already. Who else might it be? I think it’s very difficult to predict. We’re hearing suggestions that Levi Cowwell might be included, which would be a surprise for me, even though he’s done really well of late.
There’s Jon Stones, who we know Thomas Tulle is a massive fan of, but he hasn’t played 90 minutes of football since August. He’s played so little football, Jon Stones. Can Thomas Tulle justify calling him up right now? Well, Jody seemed to think so. There’s Gerald Quanser. There’s Nathaniel Chalabar that he that he’s used and and and has fans on.
Trevor Chalabar, I beg you pardon, good, thank you. Um, and so there are options and and at the moment it’s difficult to second guessess exactly what Tul is thinking. My understanding is that the players haven’t been told yet. I think the reason this has come out is because I think Tul is probably bringing some of the players who haven’t made the squad to say, “Look, sorry, you’re not in my plans.
” But the vast majority of players that I expect to be in the squad haven’t been told yet. And I think the FA will leave that very late until their squad announcement at 10:00 tomorrow. So there’s going to be an awful lot of guessing. But credit to Talk Sport for getting this exclusive. It was them that got it first.
They said Harry Mcguire’s been left out and they’re right. Maguire’s confirmed that on Twitter and I think it’s a big surprise. Yeah. Um you mentioned a couple of players in there, you know, all would expect Mark Gay to be on the plane. Of course, that would be a massive shock if he wasn’t. Um Levi Cowwell though, that’s somebody you admire.
Yeah, I mean he’s he’s had obviously a long injury layoff, but the way he’s performed in the last sort of two and a half games, he’s he’s been outstanding. Um, I think the fact that he’s a lefty can sometimes sway you. Um, and he can play left back where England are not, you know, flush with options. And and and also he’s just one of them where I just think the level of game that he’s since he’s come back where we had to sort of go to Liverpool away at Anfield.
He played the full 90 minutes there. He then plays a full 90 against Man City in the cup final. um feel like there are two really big games that if the England manager is watching who liked him before, he involved him quite a few times. It wouldn’t surprise me if he then goes, “Well, you you kind of proven that your your fitness is there.
You’re not struggling at all with 90 minutes in big games as well.” Um, yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was included.
